Cause and Effect essay

 Incidents that got me worried

Recently in the heart of south Europe, in my country of  Macedonia a lot of incidents occurred.  There are several reasons for this occurrence. First, tensions have been simmering in Macedonia since the end of the armed rebellion in 2001, when ethnic Muslim Albanians fought Macedonian forces for about eight mounts; their cause was seeking greater rights for their community in Macedonia. But most Macedonians argue that what their Albanian countrymen really want is the destruction of Macedonia and the creation of a "Greater Albania". The conflict left 80 people dead, and ended with the intervention of NATO troops.

Two month ago an off-duty Macedonian policeman shot and killed two ethnic Muslim Albanians. The policeman was with his daughter when he was attacked by 4 Muslim Albanians and the media said that the cause was a parking space. Also, separate reports alleged that he had responded to an attempted assault by a group of men seeking to silence his supposed knowledge of the local illegal drug trade. The effects of this were a series of attacks on buses and in the streets involving clashes between Macedonians and ethnic Albanian youths. This was followed by further violence over the weekend. In April 2012 Macedonia has declared a day of mourning after the shooting of five men, the worst mass murder in the history of the tiny Balkan country that has fueled speculation they were ethnic-related killings. The victims were ethnic Macedonians, mostly young fishermen. Four were in their 20s, and the fifth was in his 40s. Four days after the killings, several hundred young Macedonian protesters in the capitol city of Skopje clashed with police, battling to stop them from entering the parts of the city where Muslim Albanians live, seeking revenge. Finally, after 3 weeks of investigation the police arrested twenty radical Muslims, mostly Macedonian citizens, some of whom had been fighting in Afghanistan and Pakistan against NATO soldiers. They were nabbed on Monday after a massive security operation involving some 800 police officers and other interior ministry officials. One of the effects of these arrests was the protest of about 1,500 radical Islamists in the Macedonia capitol Skopje demanding release of the Islamists radical suspects arrested by the police on 2nd of May following the cold-blooded summary execution of four Macedonian children and one mid-aged Macedonian while they were fishing.

The aim of the brutal murder was to get Macedonians to attack Muslim Albanians and vice versa. Facebook is here, lets organize, lets burn them alive, right? Except, Macedonians are much, much smarter than that, and most importantly are not evil people, like others. The effect wanted by the killers was not accomplished, at least not so far…

Compare and Contrast Essay

This is my Country
Macedonia is located in the heart of south central Europe. It shares a border with Greece to the south, Bulgaria to the east, Serbia and Kosovo to the north, and Albania to the west. Since the end of the Second World War, Macedonia's population has grown steadily, with the greatest increases occurring in the ethnic Albanian community. From 1953 through the time of the latest official census in 2002, the percentage of ethnic Albanians living in Macedonia rose threefold. The western part of the country, where most ethnic Albanians live, is the most heavily populated, with approximately 40% of the total population. As in many countries, people have moved into the cities in search of employment. Macedonia has also experienced sustained high rates of permanent or seasonal emigration.
Most ethnic Muslim Albanians say that all they want is to be equal to ethnic Macedonians. Despite the huge differences like religion. Macedonians are Christians and Albanians are Muslims by religion. Orthodox Christianity is the majority faith of the Republic of Macedonia making up 64.7% of the population, the vast majority of which belong to the Macedonian Orthodox Church. Macedonians speak Macedonian language and the Muslim Albanians speaks Albanian language. Also, there is a huge difference if we compare the lifestyle. Macedonians are friendly people open to the world just like every western civilization. Traditional Macedonian food is world wide known and it is very different than the Albanian food. Also Muslim Albanians still live the lifestyle like their grand-grand-fathers. They still build walls around their houses so that other people can’t see what’s going on in their yard or house. They don’t let their women to show their hair in public and even their faces.

But most Macedonians argue that what their Albanian countrymen really want is the destruction of Macedonia and the creation of a "Greater Albania". The "mother state" of Albanians is, of course, Albania. From the Macedonian (as well as from the Serbian or Greek) standpoint, since Albanians already have their own mother state, Albania, they do not need to have a second one at the expense of neighboring peoples. Economically, Muslim Albanians are generally self-reliant, with many being self-employed. More generally, however, Macedonians argue that the Muslims enjoy every single right a national minority is entitled to. Muslim Albanians fiercely oppose Macedonia's fundamental law which defines the republic as a state Macedonians, and other minorities.

Persuasive Essay: Smoking

Should Smoking be banned in America?

Smoking in public places should be banned. This popular practice is harmful not only for the individual’s health, but also for surrounding environment. Smoking harms body. Smoking kills more Americans than AIDS, drug abuse, car accidents and crime. Detrimental effects from smoking include lung cancer, heart disease and death. More recently, local government entities are moving towards the banning of smoking in public places. Today smoking is a pleasure for some, a dumb habit for so many people and it is a cancer for few.
First of all, Fashionable smoking can lead to lung cancer. Tobacco smoke contains chemicals that are harmful for both smokers and non-smokers. Breathing even a little tobacco smoke can be bad for the lungs. According to the Centers for deceases control and prevention, smoking causes an estimated 90% of all lung cancer death in men and 80% of all lung cancer deaths in women. If a pregnant woman smokes, she has a greater chance of medical problems with her baby. Lung cancer has caused more deaths in women than breast cancer. Cigarette smoking is the number one cause of cancer death in men. Male smokers over the age of 35 are more likely to die from smoking-related diseases.
Next, this dangerous practice is also the reason for numerous heart diseases. According to the Centers do diseases control and prevention, smoking causes coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes reduced circulation by narrowing the blood vessels (arteries) and puts smokers at risk of developing peripheral vascular disease. It can also cause obstruction of the large arteries in the arms and legs that can cause a range of problems from pain to tissue loss or gangrene. Cigarette smoking not only increases the risk of developing an abdominal aortic aneurysm, the chance of aneurysm rupture (a life-threatening complication of abdominal aneurysm) is also more common among active smokers.
According to the World Health Organization, tobacco is the second leading cause of deaths all around the globe. The WHO estimates that 10 percent of all deaths are smoking related, which comes out to about five million people each year. This number is expected to grow to 10 million by 2020. Half of all smokers will die from their tobacco use. That's about 325 million deaths total. Some of the larger American cities like New York and Columbus, Ohio, have found success with implementing such policies. It will take many years after a city passes such laws to determine how many smoking deaths they are able to prevent.
Quitting smoking has major health benefits that start right away. This is true for people who already have a smoking-related disease as well as those who don’t. Quitting smoking lowers the risk of lung cancer, other cancers, heart attack, stroke, and chronic lung diseases such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. But the sad part of this reality is that many children start smoking before they reach high school. They run the risk of smoking most of their lives. So, I think smoking should be banned in United states of America because it is not good for people’s health.

Narrative essay

During the last four years, every summer I was traveling from Europe to USA. One day I was walking home and I saw a huge sign that said: Apply now and meet new people, work and travel in USA. Seeing this sign really made me curious and one day I went in the agency’s office and asked. I’ve talked with them and realized that this was one good opportunity for me to travel and meet new people throughout the States. In the spring 2009 I’ve applied in a program called “Work & Travel USA summer experience” so, I end up working for Kitty Hawk Kites in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After 4 months of working I had 1 month to travel. The first year I visited New York City, Virginia Beach, Miami, Florida. I really enjoyed my time and I decided to come back again, and again.
On the Outer Banks there are several islands that are good for vacationing and a lot of natural treasures surround the area. The beaches are not crowded and are much cleaner than some other vacationing places in the US. I liked the Banks from the first moment I came here on the Outer Banks.   After I finished the University in my country I decided to apply in College in the States. And I was lucky to find out that on Roanoke Island in the town of Manteo (one of the islands that I was traveling every summer) there is one College. So during this summer I came to check if this one was the right one for me. My first impression was great. I’ve met two international students that were from Europe, from my neighbor country and We’ve talked about the COA. I was thinking it would be nice if I apply and stay in the USA to study at the College of The Albemarle.
During this summer a very bad storm came on the Outer Banks. It was hurricane Irene, and wash of the road on the island that I was staying. It happened on the 27th of August and I was not able to go and get the placement tests two weeks after the storm. Finally on the 15th of September right before my visa expires they let the Ferry boats going in and out of the Hatteras island and I went to the COA to take the tests. After that I left North Carolina and went in Florida. I was there for more than three month waiting, and the people from the College called me to let me know that my documents are accepted and that I’m starting school on 9th of January.
After having a great time traveling in Florida, Key West, Fort Meyers, Miami I came back in January to the Outer Banks to start my classes. So, this first semester I’ve learned a lot of stuff in the College. I’m aware that this is the first step and I’m hoping that during my studies I’ll learn a lot of things that will help me upgrade my career in the future.
