During the last four years, every summer I was traveling from Europe to USA. One day I was walking home and I saw a huge sign that said: Apply now and meet new people, work and travel in USA. Seeing this sign really made me curious and one day I went in the agency’s office and asked. I’ve talked with them and realized that this was one good opportunity for me to travel and meet new people throughout the States. In the spring 2009 I’ve applied in a program called “Work & Travel USA summer experience” so, I end up working for Kitty Hawk Kites in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After 4 months of working I had 1 month to travel. The first year I visited New York City, Virginia Beach, Miami, Florida. I really enjoyed my time and I decided to come back again, and again.
On the Outer Banks there are several islands that are good for vacationing and a lot of natural treasures surround the area. The beaches are not crowded and are much cleaner than some other vacationing places in the US. I liked the Banks from the first moment I came here on the Outer Banks. After I finished the University in my country I decided to apply in College in the States. And I was lucky to find out that on Roanoke Island in the town of Manteo (one of the islands that I was traveling every summer) there is one College. So during this summer I came to check if this one was the right one for me. My first impression was great. I’ve met two international students that were from Europe, from my neighbor country and We’ve talked about the COA. I was thinking it would be nice if I apply and stay in the USA to study at the College of The Albemarle.
During this summer a very bad storm came on the Outer Banks. It was hurricane Irene, and wash of the road on the island that I was staying. It happened on the 27th of August and I was not able to go and get the placement tests two weeks after the storm. Finally on the 15th of September right before my visa expires they let the Ferry boats going in and out of the Hatteras island and I went to the COA to take the tests. After that I left North Carolina and went in Florida. I was there for more than three month waiting, and the people from the College called me to let me know that my documents are accepted and that I’m starting school on 9th of January.
After having a great time traveling in Florida, Key West, Fort Meyers, Miami I came back in January to the Outer Banks to start my classes. So, this first semester I’ve learned a lot of stuff in the College. I’m aware that this is the first step and I’m hoping that during my studies I’ll learn a lot of things that will help me upgrade my career in the future.
